Your Guide to Pride Month 2024 in Key West
Disco, diamonds, and drag will all sparkle at this year’s Key West Pride month, and there’s no better home base than the tropical rooms and suites at Parrot Key Hotel & Villas. Key West is an LGBTQIA+-friendly city, with a festive itinerary to pair this Pride month. The Pride 2024 festival kicks off on Wednesday, June 5, and is sure to dazzle through the finale on Sunday, June 9. At Parrot Key, you’ll find an oasis with four pools and five acres of shaded tropical gardens — all close to the excitement of Duval Street. No matter how you celebrate Pride month this year, there is surely something for you during the five-day celebration of joy and being prouder together.
Taste the Rainbow
The official Key West Pride Kick-off Luncheon “Celebrating Key West’s 70’s Disco Era and its contribution to Pride,” commences at noon on Wednesday at Beachside Key West. Following suit, the festival launches into full swing later that afternoon with the evening kick-off event at Hard Rock Café. The party begins at 5:30 p.m., taking you all the way back to the 1970s when disco was king (or queen!) Tickets include drinks, appetizers, desserts, and live music from two local DJs.
Throughout the weekend there are many opportunities for proud foodies to indulge in. On Thursday and Friday at 11 a.m., join Pride Fest’s Taste the Rainbow Tour, boasting tasty cocktails and brunch bites at four Key West gay-owned and friendly bars.
For dining on the go, join the Key West Pride Disco-Themed Pub Roll on an Old Town Trolley Saturday at 1 p.m., and dress in your best summertime disco 70s attire, as the winner will be crowned Co-Grand Marshall of the parade. Other thrilling adventures include the Pride Week Brunch Sail Fundraiser supporting Gay Key West, or the “Tea on the Sea” sunset sail, which promises to be a fun dance experience on the water.
Dancing Queens
For the disco divas, this festival is your time to shine. On Wednesday, join the “Prouder Together” Charity Disco Ball at The Birdcage featuring The Divas & The Aquanettes. Then, on Friday night, strut on over to Mangoes for a “70’s Retro Disco Party” in the exclusive upstairs Ricky Ricardo Room. Be sure to purchase your tickets ahead of time as they are limited, dress to impress for the costume competition, and get ready for a night of dancing.
On Saturday at 4 p.m., tents, fans, and disco will take over the 700, 800, & 900 blocks of Duval Street as the “We Are Family” Street Fair boogies on into the night until 11 p.m. Lastly, this is your sign to get out your Bedazzlers because the First Annual Glitter & Diamonds Party on the last night of Pride promises to grace Key West with stunning costumes and the sounds of local DJs.
Beat the Heat at Pride
Key West is a true tropical island, and in June the temperatures can heat way up, so plan ahead by attending one of Friday’s pool parties or Saturday’s snorkeling tour out to the sandbar. For the young at heart, enjoy Drag Story Time at the Fringe Theater where friends will read an array of stories, paired with craft time afterward.
